3 points on the road

After 3 home games during the Christmas period we headed out on the road for the first of 5 away games in January. Holker up in Barrow-in-Furness have had a difficult season so far, including 2 big defeats at home by 1-11 and 0-9 by Longridge and Lower Breck. Lee and James had brought in 2 top quality players in Reece Lyndon who has been at Silsden, and Jack Turnbull who has captained Chadderton this season. Both lads have been at Avro before, so there was no danger that they wouldn't settle into the squad quickly. We didn't expect it so quickly though! with Jack Turnbull scoring after only 2 minutes at Holker, and then doubling the advantage after 20 minutes. Watching on the sidelines you expected the floodgates to open maybe, but Holker's defence held out and whilst they didn't really make any clear cut chances themselves, they managed to defend well and it wasn't until the 89th minute that Joe Rathbone - who earned the MOM with a great display in the Avros midfield - thumped home a shot that put us 0-3 in front and sealed the points. Other results meant that we managed to gain points over Carlisle City, who are due at the Vestacare at the end of this month as we chase down Longridge Town. The title race is still very much alive and kicking.
