17 degrees in February in Bacup, not anything you'd ever expect to experience, but we had a beautiful day for our 2nd visit of the season to the Brian Boys Stadium - where we had already won 2-3 in the Macron Cup.
Every game is a cup final for us at this stage of the season, and we had to make sure we focused on this game and not get distracted by Wednesday's visit to league leaders Longridge Town (7-45pm)
The surface was heavy and bumpy and not one that you could easily play a passing game on, and the home side set their stall out early to fire long balls into the danger areas and ask questions of our defence with Reece Lyndon and Michael Shenton as centre backs.
We patiently kept trying to play the ball along the ground and on 15' we got our reward when the ball was initially cleared by Bacup, but came out to MICHAEL STOCKDALE who made no mistake with the finish to put us 0-1 up. Within the half hour VINNY HOWELL doubled the lead with as sweet a strike as you will see this season from 25 yards out giving the Bacup keeper no chance. We had a few scares as Bacup came close on breaks to reducing the deficit, but Jordan Latham, making his 38th appearance of the season was equal to anything thrown at him by the Bacup attack, handling calmly and confidently under pressure. The 2nd half began with the 3rd goal that we needed to put a decent gap between us, and again MICHAEL STOCKDALE snapped up his chance and made it 0-3. The rest of the half was played out with relatively few chances for either side, and our lead never really looked threatened. This game followed a 3-3 league draw at the Vestacare earlier in the season, and a 2-3 win for us in the Macron Cup. We still have to meet Bacup in the 2 legged semi-final of the 1st Division Cup with the first leg taking place at the Brian Boys Stadium on March 16th KO 3pm. Support for Lee,James and the lads is always 100% appreciated and thanks to everyone who travelled up to Bacup to support us.
