Back to back HSL away wins for Avro

MATCHDAY 5 | 18.08.18 | DAISY HILL FC 1 AVRO FC 4
After Wednesday night’s hard fought win at AFC Darwen we showed just a couple of changes with Mike Norton away louis Potts came back into the side, with Duncan Knott taking the no.9 shirt. Ryan Hanson came in for Danny Grimshaw with Kane Wallwork dropping to full back. We also welcomed back striker Joe Bevan after holidays.
Another game and another goal inside the first minute! This time though it was ourselves going in front before everyone had settled down, Jake Pollard nipping in between the Daisy Hill keeper and centre back to put us 0-1 up. This was a great start for us, and the lads really seemed to want this game. We were really on the front foot from the word go and Duncan Knott doubled the lead on 13 minutes with a very neat chip over the keeper. 0-2. Vinny Howell was continuing his great to the season in the Avro midfield, he was running the game along with louis Potts who was also playing well. Jake Pollard who was having a very impressive game went close on 17 minutes when he turned and shot, only to see his shot hit the woodwork. louis Potts was the next to try his luck with a shot that the Daisy Hill keeper just got his hand to on his left hand post. The corner was swung in and from that Sam Rathbone had an effort cleared off the line. It seemed only a matter of time before we got a 3rd goal, but Daisy Hill, on the break, had begun to ask a few questions of our defence and on 42 minutes Jordan made a great save, tipping a powerful shot over the bar. We came back again though at the home side and Michael Stockdale forced their keeper into a good save but we couldn’t benefit from the corner as the first half came to an end. HT : 0-2
The second began where we left off with lots of Avro pressure on the home side’s goal, but we couldn’t seem to get the 3rd goal that would kill the game off. Michael Stockdale had a chance and on 61 minutes Duncan Knott hit the wall from a direct free-kick. Daisy Hill were becoming more dangerous now and with the introduction of a couple of substitutes, they added a bit more pace into their attacks, which started to be a lot more effective than they had been in the first half. We carried on playing our game though and on 67 minutes louis Potts got himself into a great position on the right of the Daisy Hill box and fired in a great shot into the back of the net past the diving keeper 0-3. We should have made it four on 80 minutes, but Joe Rathbone and Joe Bevan both went for the same ball, and in the mix-up neither managed to make the connection and the chance went begging. The pace of Daisy Hill on our left was beginning to get threatening, and credit to them, they never gave up, but then on 86 minutes Ryan Hanson got a fourth for us, a goal he fully deserved after an afternoon where he had the beating of the Daisy Hill left back every time, with a well placed shot under the keeper. In the dying seconds Daisy Hill did finally get a consolation goal, which they deserved on their improved second half performance . Daisy Hill were a really friendly club and showed us great hospitality, we wish them all the best for the rest of the season. With some of the other results going our way, we stay on top of the table, adding another 3 to our goal difference. It’s a big weekend coming up, with games against Holker Old Boys at the Vestacare on Saturday, before we head to Adie Moran Park on Bank Holiday Monday for the derby with Prestwich Heys. The lads need as much support as possible, so it would be great to see big crowds on both days cheering us on.
